Pindari Glacier Trek Overview & Itinerary
Pindari Glacier Trek is one of the best treks in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. It is the source of River Pindar which is a major tributary of the Alakananda river and meets Alakananda at Karnaprayag.
The Pindari kafni glacier trek is along streams and rivers, with view of the Himalayan peaks like Panwali Dwar, Maiktoli, Nanda Kot, Nanda Khat, Mt. Baljouri and many more. Though it is a long trek but is easy and offers a lot to both beginners and experienced trekkers

PINDARI GLACIER TREK ITINERARY
Day 1: Bageshwar to Khati, 60 km drive, 4 km trek
- Report at Bageshwar at 12:00 PM
- Leave for kahrkia at 1:00 PM
- Trek to Khati 4 Kms
- Stay in guest house
- Dinner followed by rest
Day 2: Khati to Dwali, 13 km Trek
- Today we will walk with a heavy breakfast as it is going to be a long day trek
- Many water points and stream on this day
- You will witness both Pindari Glacier Trek and kafni valley today
- Stay at Dwali
- Dinner followed by Rest
Day 3: Dwali to Phurkiya
- Leave Dwali after Breakfast
- Trek to Phurkiya
- Acclimitization walk in evening
- Dinner and Rest
Day 4: Phurkiya to zero point and back to Phurkiya
- Today we leave early at 5 to reach zero point on time
- Zero point is the last point from where we can see the complete Pindari Glacier Trek
- Return and stay at Phurkiya
- Today you will see Nandakhat and Baljouri Peaks
- Dinner and Stay at Phurkiya
Day 5: Phurkiya to Khati, 18 Km Trek
- Early Breakfast
- Descend down to Khati village
- Stay at Khati village
Day 6: Khati to Bageshwar
- Trek down and Drive to Bageshwar.

Trek Essentials
TSS Jumbo Bag
- Backpack/Ruck Sack (at least 55 Litres) and a small day bag ( upto 15 litres) for summit day
- Poncho/Raincoat and Rain Cover for Ruck Sack

- Personal Medical Kit: Crocin-Fever, Avomine-Motion Sickness, Avil 25mg – Allergies, Combiflam, Disprin-headache, Norflox TZ & Lomofen-diarrhea, digene-acidity, omez/rantadine antacid, crepe bandages, band aids, ORS, betadiene or antiseptic cream, moov spray/volini, cotton, gauze.
- Water bottle 1 L or Hydration bag 2 L
- Other personal accessories – Camera, Tripod, mobile charger, power banks(as there will be no electricity during the trek)

- Being a high altitude trek, this trek is suitable for climbers with good physical condition and stamina.
- This is a tentative itinerary which may change as per weather conditions
- We expect you to carry your rucksacks, in case if you want them to be carried by mules back pack offloading charge up to Rs. 300/bag/day is applicable

Pindari Glacier Trek History
The Pindari and Milam Valley have a rich history of ancient trade routes connecting them to Tibet for many centuries. In 1830, GW Traill, the first Deputy Commissioner of Kumaon, explored a shorter route to Martoli in Milam Valley from Pindari Glacier, which involved crossing Traill’s Pass, a col at 17,700 feet, through the Pindari ice-fall. This sparked a series of explorations by various individuals and teams, including Schlagintweits (1850), Ruttledge (1926), the Japanese Mt. Nanda Kot Expedition team (1936), Osmaston and surveyors (1938), Arnold Heim (1937), and S.S Khera (1941). Although Pindari Glacier Trek is not the largest or longest glacier in the Himalayas, its approach to the huge ice-fall section is rarely as easy to navigate as it is here.
How to reach the base camp of Pindari glacier trek- Khati Village?
By Bus: There are regular bus services available from major cities in Uttarakhand like Nainital, Almora, and Ranikhet to the town of Bageshwar. From Bageshwar, you can take a local bus or taxi to reach Khati village. The distance between Bageshwar and Khati is around 40 km, and it takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach Khati from Bageshwar.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Khati is Kathgodam Railway Station, located around 200 km away. From there, you can take a train to Haldwani, which is the nearest major town to Khati. From Haldwani, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Khati village.
By Road: Khati is well connected by road to major cities in Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis are available from cities like Delhi, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Kathgodam. The nearest major town to Khati is Almora, which is around 60 km away. From Almora, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach Khati.
